[7th-March] Föllakzoid Live in Hong Kong [Online Ticketing is available now]

香港從來都不是一個迷幻的地方。
由教育、工作到居住,無一樣可以迷幻得起。
所以,我們以外地輸入的迷幻音樂來麻醉自己。

Pink Floyd、Spacemen 3、My Bloody Valentine、The Verve等迷幻之音,都是我們喜歡的名字,可惜從沒機會一睹他們在台上演出的風采;幸好,近年多了些新生代迷幻樂隊來港演出,如TOY、Temples、Psychic Ills、Tame Impala、Bo Ningen、Pond等,慰藉相思之苦,最新就有來自智利的Föllakzoid。

三人行的Föllakzoid,包括音結化手兼主唱Juan Pablo Rodrigues、結他手Domingo García-Huidobro和鼓手Diego Lorca,樂隊於2008年出道,以玩奏簡約、即興、虛幻、吵耳的迷幻音樂見稱,由2009年的同名專集《Föllakzoid》到後來的《II》和《III》,這三部曲中那既Drone又Stoned的氛圍,極之懾人。不少人說Föllakzoid是Spacemen 3的再生,去年樂隊跟Spacemen 3、Spiritualized的主腦Jason Pierce合作,帶來《London Sessions》,碟內即場收音的方式,重新灌錄《III》專集裡兩首長達11多分鐘作品《Electric》和《Earth》,那失真虛幻的聲音,引領聽眾進入一個迷離國度。

Föllakzoid將於3月7日來到香港演出一場,是夜還有本地Instrument-Rock樂隊Life Was All Silence作暖場。Föllakzoid現場演中比片更富張力更為懾人,將即興迷幻的魔力發揮到極緻,這一個晚上,可能是油麻地史上最迷幻的幾小時。

Föllakzoid (Chile)
Föllakzoid are a psych-pop group from Santiago, Chile, formed around bassist/vocalist Juan Pablo Rodrigues, guitarist Domingo García-Huidobro , and drummer Diego Lorca. The three met during childhood and started playing together officially in 2008. During their first practice, they jammed on a song in free-form style for over two hours, and this reliance on chemistry became a defining characteristic of their live shows. In 2009, after adding guitarist Domingo Garcia-Huidobro, they started the BYM (Blow Your Mind) studio and record label, and released their first album on cassette. Föllakzoid spent the next two years working on a long-running, two-song, self-titled EP for Sacred Bones, and followed it up in 2013 with II on the same label. The band toured extensively in support of the album, appearing at festivals including ATP and Lollapalooza, and their performances inspired the songs that became their third album. Föllakzoid recorded and mixed 2015’s III at BYM, collaborating with German electronic artist Atom™, who played a Korg synthesizer that was used by Kraftwerk while touring during the ’80s. While touring Europe in 2016, the band collaborated with J. Spaceman (Jason Pierce of Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized), and a 12″ containing reworkings of III tracks “Electric” and “Earth” was issued by Sacred Bones as London Sessions in 2017.

Life Was All Silence (Hong Kong)
When sound and space become intertwined, Life Was All Silence (LWAS) decants emotions into weightless state, with fusion of traditional guitar motion, instruments and synthesizer tones. They make cutting edge analog sound infused with unerringly charming improvising music, expanding the sound space with intensified, fragile, explosive and brittle sweet tunes.

2010 fall, founding member LEAF (Bass) and TRAVIS (Percussion) attempted to improvise music, FRANK (Keyboard & Synthesizer) and JAY (Guitar and Synthesizer) joined to form the early stage of LWAS. The band is emerged with stories of the band members, and blooming vigourously with their high energy and unique sound.

Prepared for two years, with the help of tfvsjs, LWAS published their debut album “The People” in 2014, which full of humanistic colour, with an expression of views on war, anecdotes, city life, decaying world and future etc.

The band just completed the Tour in 10 China cities, was invited to be supporting act for well-known artists like Maybe She Will, Envy, and festivals like Clockenflap 2015.

The Fin.將於3月18日第三次來香港演出,原來今次包括了很多的「新」。

今時的The Fin.,並不是往日的The Fin.。先是「新」陣容,由原來四人變成三缺一,主音歌手兼鍵琴手Yuto Uchino、結他手Ryosuke Odagaki和鼓手Kaoru Nakazawa仍然在陣,不過後者轉換位置,變成玩奏低音結他,至於原有低音結他手TakayasuTaguchi卻因個人理由離隊;另一變動是「新」基地,The Fin.由日本神戶移居到英國倫敦發展,離開成長家鄉看似是重大轉變,但倫敦對樂隊來說並不太陌生,早期MV《Faded Light》正正是在當地取景。

「新」陣容「新」基地下製作的「新」專集《There》,請來「新」監製Bradley Spence製作,這位英國製作人,曾是大師Trevor Horn助手,又跟Coldplay、Doves、New Order、Radiohead、Belle & Sebasitan等不同英式風格代表合作,在他操刀處理下,The Fin.變得比從前更具城市感,優美調子仍然是他們的拿手好戲,而編曲也顯得細緻精巧,卻不會流於堆砌造作,在英國錄製一張英式味道濃厚的唱片,集夢幻、浪漫、淒美的動人音符,邁向成熟又不失自我的進化,碟內新單曲《Outskirts》是繼《Night Time》和《Throught The Deep》後,另一首扣人心弦的The Fin.作品。

2015年7月The Fin.首次來港於蒲吧舉行《The Fin. Asia Tour》,意外地全場爆滿;翌年6月樂隊舊地重臨的《The Fin. “Through The Deep” Release Asia Tour》,場內歡呼聲響遍籃球場,今次為「新」專集舉行的亞洲巡迴《The Fin. “There” Album Release Tour》的香港站,不再是蒲吧,移師到「新」演出場地——油麻地逸東酒店的Eaton Workshop。眾多「新」元素下,這一晚定能為樂迷帶來「新」的感受。

The fin. (Japan)
The fin., rock band born in Kobe (Japan), is releasing their new album after more than 3 years ! First release since they chose London as a base, the album has benefited from the location, being produced there at Dean Street Studio by Bradley Spence, well known for his works as producer for Jamiroquai, Passenger or Alt-J and for his mixing for Radiohead.

The mastering has been once again handled by Joe Lambert, who has worked with big names such as Beach Fossils, Wild Nothing, Washed Out or Warpaint.

Among the 13 tracks of the album figure “Pale Blue”, “Afterglow” and “Outskirts”, 3 songs whose earlier release on streaming platforms have quickly drawn attention all over the world and led them to get selected on some of the hottest playlists picking up new tracks, such as UK’s and France’s Spotify’s “New Music Friday”. The album includes also re-mixed and re-arranged versions of “Through The Deep” and “Heat”, 2 songs that were featured on a EP released in March 2016.

自2000年出道以來,日本Indie樂隊downy就注定難以被定形。

由日印混血兒青木Robin擔任主音歌手兼結他手,加上結他手青木裕、低音結他手仲俣和宏、鼓手秋山隆彦,以及VJ柘榴所組成的downy,初出道時正值Post-Rock旺盛期,而他們於2001年發表的首張專集《無題》,也因布滿Post-Rock基因,而被認為是這音樂體系的一份子。

經歷過拆夥(2004年)和重組(2013年),downy一而再、再而三,總共發表了六張同樣稱為《無題》的專集,要Google資料或買碟時,都要加倍小心,偶一大意隨時買錯或買多。不過,音樂風格上,downy並不如碟名般專一,由Post-Rock玩到Math Rock、Post-Hardcore、Experimental Rock、Indie Rock等,林林種種重型又虛幻的聲音混為一體,他們可以什麼都是,他們也可以什麼都不是,當中不變是那沉重、灰暗和無奈的氛圍。

作為downy的fromtman,青木Robin除了作品創作外,他還聯同MONO的Taka Goto與envy的河合信賢,於去年開始舉辦音樂節《AFTER HOURS》,是希望將日本展現出日本音樂與藝術的不同面向。主題概念都不過是虛幻飄渺,演出陣容才是重要根基,《AFTER HOURS》今年4月第二屆演出,參與名單份量勁得嚇人,三位舉辦者所屬樂隊當然不可少,當看見toe、Boris、tricot、World’s End Girlfriend、Mouse On The Keys等一隊隊不同風格樂隊,可見這音樂節的強大。

downy的唱片一直在本地Indie圈廣泛流傳,十多年來都是聽日本Indie不可不知的名字,十多年後終於有機會一睹downy現場演出的風采,過往在第三和第四張《無題》兩碟中,聽過和看過他們演出片段,那份澎湃,那份緊湊,那份激情,不用再透過音響器材的傳播,而是毫無阻隔地呈現眼前,親歷其境的零距離感覺,永遠是最好的。

downy (Japan)
Formed in April 2000, downy is a 5 piece rock band who feature a ‘visual specialist’ amongst their ranks. Their live performance is a true fusion of the audio and visual, appealing to both the audience’s visual and aural senses – something that the band has helped to pioneer. Each individual member is also an active musician in their own right, receiving ringing endorsements from musicians both within Japan and beyond. The band went on hiatus in 2004, only to return in 2013 and then play Fujirock Festival the following year, summer 2014. Their latest album, released in September 2016, is their 6th full length album, entitled “6th Album -‘Untitled’”.

we are honored to host a special event dadamachines workshop at White Noise in store on 20th May. Dada Machines is a Berlin and Munich based music technology project. This event is welcome to all musicians or non-musicians of all ages to explore novel ways of creating and making music.

During this workshop, Johannes Elias Lohbihler (creator of Dada Machines) will introduce this limitless project and tell us about its stories; also electronic musician Heimer will introduce his collaboration with Dada Machines’ toolkit in his live-set.

White Noise今次請來dadamachines合作舉行工作坊,為的是讓大家親手製造聲音。

dadamachines是來自德國柏林、慕尼黑的音樂創意科技工作室,主腦Johannes Elias Lohbihler除了是Dada Machines核心人物,他發明了名為the automat toolkit的器材,讓用家可以隨意地借此來製作聲效,牌九、噹噹、搖鼓,甚至是水,全都可以變成樂器來。

是次活動,Johannes除了解構the automat toolkit設計理念和背後故事外,電子音樂人Heimer更會一同利用the automat toolkit作現場演出。歡迎音樂人與非音樂人親臨參與,一起玩奏,一起動手製作完全屬於個人的獨特聲音。

What is dadamachines?
dadamachines is a Berlin-based studio launching the automat toolkit, a MIDI-controlled music toolkit that allows anyone, regardless of music skill level,
to turn the real world into their instrument. The core of the toolkit is the automat, an arduino-compatible plug-and-play MIDI-controller with 12 DC outputs. The automat can be used with your favorite music software or hardware. The toolkit includes the automat and a series of solenoid beaters that plug in to 12 outputs allowing you to tap, ping and knock on anything.

Who is behind dadamachines?
dadamachines is the project of Berlin-based Creative Technologist and DJ – Johannes Lohbihler. Johannes grew up in Bavaria, hailing from a line of seven generations of carpenters. Growing up among the Weilheim music scene that included acts such as the Notwist, Lali Puna and Acid Pauli – Johannes was interested in music from early on. He started DJing and found inspiration to bring together electronic music production and analog tools – combining his background as a craftsman and passion for music. During his masters studies in interaction design, Johannes began developing a simple plug-and-play kit that made music machines accessible to everyone – that project became dadamachines.

Heimer
Heimer is a Berlin based electronic musician, producer and visual artist. With equal footing in hip-hop, electronic and pop, his work bridges countless genres like grime[1], skweee[2], bass[3], footwork[4], jazz & soul. Sounds collide and blend into a distinctive kaleidoscope, striking a balance between joyful, intricate compositions and bold, colorful melodies. Born and grown in East Berlin, Heimer taught himself how to fix, customize and create home-made and found musical equipment, and in doing so, discovered his passion and fascination for electronic music and sonic exploration. Heimer released music and collaborations on !K7, Karaoke Kalk and recently debut his full-length solo LP “Teilzeit Swag”, alongside a 4-track EP “Beverly the Hill” on Tomlab.

不經不覺,原來Record Store Day已經來到第十個年頭,而今年也是我們White Noise第三年參與是次活動。

也許Record Store Day早已mark在你的手機記事中,不過這活動卻難免成為一個「商業」活動,畢竟唱片店是以買賣唱片為生,不論明目有幾巧立,不論本意有幾變質,若然當中沒錢銀交易,有幾多乜Day勿Day也是徒然,唱片店始終沒法生存下來。

今年4月22日,White Noise的Record Store Day日,繼續跟夥計說:「照舊!」有二手黑膠、CD,有DJ現場演出,買唱片當然開心到極點,上來”Just to say hi.”也無任歡迎,逛唱片店親手拿唱片上手的經驗未成化石前,趁早就是趁早。

Japanese Underground對香港Indie界來說,一直都是這麼遠那麼近。

過往曾來港演出的相關名字,說多不多,但數下來,其實也不少,有前輩級的灰野敬二與Acid Mother Temple,又有近代的水晶の舟(Suishou no Fune),而今次主角輪到Sundays & Cybele(シベールの日曜日)。

Sundays & Cybele來自北海道函館,現紮根於東京。樂隊於2004年組成,名字源自1962年由Serge Bourguignon執導的同名法國經典電影(法文名字:Les Dimanches de Ville d’Avray),現在一行四人陣容包括主音歌手兼結他手坪內和夫、結他手中田雄也、低音結他手西野匡彥和鼓手見上慎太郎。出道多年來,Sundays & Cybele先後發表多張作品,由2008年的處男專集《Sundays & Cybele》到將於今年3月面世的第六張專集《Chaos & Systems》,產量不多也不少。作為Japanese Underground一份子,Sundays & Cybele身上固然不缺Psychedelic Rock,不過他們並非只得一招走天涯,時而幽深的Acid Rock、時而虛無的Raga,還少不了傳統東洋民謠,他們是Les Rallizes Denudes遇上Ghost,也是60年代The Rolling Stones遇上Blue Cheer。

由唱片走到舞台,Sundays & Cybele將這份狂野與醉幻,更自由更奔放地展現出來,就如他們的著名作品《Almost
Heaven》一樣,錄音室版本是引人進入興奮狀態,而現場版本則是到達高潮的一刻,要知道差一點進入天堂與身處天堂是有所不同的。

3月10日於Hidden Agenda齊來領悟興奮與高潮的分別。

Sundays & Cybele (Japan)
Describing music of great power and great expanse as “cinematic” can be fitting, if perhaps overused. When it comes to the music of Tokyo’s Sundays and Cybele, it’s incredibly appropriate.

“Sundays and Cybele” is the title of a 1962 French film directed by Serge Bourguignon, and the winner of an Oscar that year for “Best Foreign Language Film.” Conversely, “Heaven” is the title of the 2015 album from Sundays and Cybele, a Japanese band speaking the universal language of explosive, kaleidoscopic sound, for a result easily translated as both heavy and heavenly.

“Heaven” announces its intentions immediately; opening track “Black Rainbows” takes to the skies in an initially unhinged manner, sounding as much like an ending as a beginning, before a gate-crashing bass line drops us firmly into the overdriven world of Sundays and Cybele. If you’ve ever yearned to hear an Orange amp threaten to explode in a transcendent array of colors, “Heaven” is the album for you. “Almost Heaven” follows, providing evidence that Sundays and Cybele seem always to be reaching for peak experience, here demonstrated by a lead guitar break that seems to merge the differences between Ash Ra Tempel and The Dead Boys into a single, illuminating whole.

Since 2004, Sundays and Cybele has functioned as essentially the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Kazuo Tsubouchi. On “Heaven,” Tsubouchi’s reach seems to aim even higher than ever before. At just over eight minutes, “Night Predator” is the longest song on the album, one that begins with a jaunty, upbeat melody that would seem to slightly betray the song’s title. Yet there’s something in the brittle, bruised stabs of guitar that punctuate the song that makes it clear the intent here is to draw blood – or at least bare its teeth. The same could be said of following track “Empty Seas” or, indeed, of the full album “Heaven” in and of itself. Sundays and Cybele possess a preternatural ability to infuse the straightforward with a strong shot of weirdness, which in turn allows their weirder moments to feel incredibly straightforward and easily translated.

“Hinagiku” and “Time Mirror” end the album on what, out of context, could easily be heard as a melancholy note. Given the extraordinary fuzz pedal abuse of the album’s previous twenty-six minutes, however, these two songs sound like Sundays and Cybele having reached their unreachable goal of “Heaven,” before floating away on another boundless, burning excursion. 大象體操——你的名字已令我們直接想像得到當中的極端的矛盾。

溫柔人性化與機械程式化,兩者表面上總是水火不容,不過水溝油也能產生化學作用的時候。大象體操三位成員:張凱婷(低音結他手)、涂嘉欽(鼓手)和張凱翔(結他手),經歷EP《平衡》和專集《角度》,他們逐漸演化出屬於自己的風格聲音,而跟主流歌手林宥嘉合作的《口的形狀》,雖然不是大象體操的創作,但他們三人負責編曲和演奏下,已經是另一番面貌,姑勿論成果是變成「林●體操」還是「大象●宥嘉」,這次都是一次重要的試煉。

張凱翔和涂嘉欽分別參軍入伍後回歸,大象體操重新上路,今年10月發表的第二張EP《工作》,將日式Math-Rock混合台式小清新,像碟內一曲《中途》,除了清新爽朗還有熱血激情,是他們體操的新式自選動作,向前跨進一步。至於現場演出,幾經磨練後更見緊湊。樂隊事別兩年多再度來港演出,由舊Hidden
Agenda來到新Hidden Agenda,由舊指定動作轉到新自選動作,大象做體操就是這樣獨特有趣的玩法。

大象體操 Elephant Gym (Taiwan)

Elephant Gym is a bass driven, Math-Rock band from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Formed in 2012. The Band is composed of Tif on bass, Tell on guitar and Chia-Chin on drums. The music of Elephant Gym is known for clear and memorable bass line, emotional guitar riffs and melodic drumming. Most songs are instrumental. In 2013, Elephant Gym has started to invite singers to compose with them.

Tell and Tif are sibling. In their childhood, their mother had taught them classical music until their adolescence. Later on, they had a big crush on rock music, especially post – rock and math -rock. Tell met Tu in high school music club. After realizing they all like the same music genre, they decided to form a rock band.

發行首張EP<平衡> 即吸引美國、日本、西班牙、馬來西亞等各國後搖滾樂迷關注。來自台灣-高雄,以BASS/鼓/吉他為主要編制的數字搖滾樂團。一般歌曲中常被忽略的低音BASS在大象體操卻是主要帶領樂器。曲中節奏變化豐富,旋律輕巧流暢。團名以大象象徵BASS,體操則表示曲中的特殊節奏。

BIO_

LORENZ COLOCCI is a composer and flutist based in Berlin working with new extended techniques, circuit bending, feedback and live-visual.

He has been playing with many international artists and he has been touring in Europe and Japan during the last 10 years, pubblishing two albums released by “Neuklang” and a composition-project promoted by the italian ministery of culture released by “RaraRecords”.

In 2013 he won the “Initiative Musik” from the german state department of Media and Culture and in the same year he was first price in the competition “Jungen Deutsche Jazz Preis” in Onsabrück, Germany.
He actually lives in Berlin being involved in numerous projects related to improvisation, noise, avant-garde and audio visual.”

賣花讚花香,教人討厭,未至於罪該萬死,也是禮義廉。不過,凡事總有破例的時候。

日本Math Rock樂隊toe再度重臨香港,作第五次演出。早前toe推出了最新的band tee,Songs & Books & Sentimentality & Tomorrow & Future & Hear,衫身上印滿了所曾推出唱片的簡稱,每一張唱片都有所不同,他們從不是愛自我重複的人,雖然曲風加入新元素,但不變的是那緊湊懾人的張力。

跳出唱盤,來到現場演出的舞台,toe的魅力依舊不變,甚至更為優勝。由2008年8月2日在中環的Grappa’s Cellar,到2010年10月20日在西灣河的Hang Out,以至2013年4月18日和2014年9月3日在九龍灣的Music Zone,toe每次來港演出,都令樂迷留下深刻、美好的印象。去年發表的第三張專集《Hear You》,是樂隊最清新可喜的一次,然而這並不代表他們的風格變得軟性,相反在流水行雲的曲調背後,仍是晶瑩剔透之餘,又不失紮實緊湊。

香港作為今次亞洲巡迴演出(菲律賓馬尼拉、馬來西亞吉隆坡、中國上海和北京)的最後一站,時光倒流到2008年,toe首度在海外演出,並且一鳴驚人,香港這城市對他們意義重大,也是他們總會把精力盡情發揮與發洩在此地的原因。

想不到好事成雙。

toe來了,而Hotel New Tokyo也一同來了。雖然今次皆非兩者的第一次到來,但第一次情意結不適用於所有事情。

由今谷忠弘領導的Jazz Rock樂隊Hotel New Tokyo,身處於Sunny Day Service主音歌手曾我部惠一所主理的Rose Records廠牌旗下,由《Gaudi melancholi》到《spring / summer》,《Tokyo Abstract Skater》和《Yes?》,憑優良技術和純熟合作,巧妙地將Jazz、AOR、Instrumental Rock、Post-Rock融為一體。他們上次來港演出,是應White Noise十周年紀念音樂會,那夜我們就像來到東京的Jazz Bar般,眼睛想旅行,耳朵亦然。

Hotel New Tokyo跟toe一向老友鬼鬼,今年日本Fuji Rock音樂節,Hotel New Tokyo找來toe結他手山嵜廣和與鼓手柏倉隆史同台演唱toe的名曲《Goodbye》,從YouTube重溫這一難得的合作,夜幕低垂伴上點點燭光,煥然一新的聽覺感受。

2016年12月3日,九龍灣E-Max的Music Zone,toe和Hotel New Tokyo兩隊樂隊舊地重遊,同樣的名字,同樣的舞台,不同是首次一起在香港同場演出,不知會否再唱一次《Goodbye》,但願他們明白好歌不妨一唱再唱的真理。

toe
toe is a Japanese music group. While mentioned in many post-rock circles, their song structure and dynamics are similar to many popular math rock artists.

toe is composed of Kashikura Takashi on drums, Mino Takaaki on guitar, Yamane Satoshi on bass guitar, and Yamazaki Hirokazu on guitar. Toe has formally played with this line-up since the band’s inception in 2000. They are currently one of three bands on the indie label Machu Picchu, along with the band mouse on the keys and Enemies.

The vast majority of the music is instrumental and features the swift and acute drumming of Takashi. The band is also known for its melodic, clean guitar settings. Additionally, the compositions have repetition from typical rock motifs, but use very subtle changes in beat and rhythm to form a unique sound. The band has changed their sound over their musical tenure by incorporating acoustic guitars, rhodes piano, and vibraphones in their most recent releases.

The band tours regularly in Japan, and can most notably be compared to acts such as Pele and The Album Leaf.

The beauty of their majestic music is that is sounds as if mystical harmonies and raw emotion is being churned out at the same time. Their explosive live performances have had fans across the globe spellbound. Their inspiring performance at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2010 has recently been the most memorable.
In December 2009 they released their new album “For Long Tomorrow” and in July 2010 they released their second DVD “CUT_DVD”.

‘Hotel New Tokyo’ is Tadahiro Imatani’s project, who actively involves in commercial soundtracks, theoretical pieces, and composed works for Kaela Kimura. From 2006, ‘Hotel New Tokyo’ officially released vinyl singles , 2009 released ‘2009 spring/summer’.10 years after the project started, they released the concept EP that combines skateboarding and design named ‘Tokyo Abstract Skater’. ‘Hotel New Tokyo’ use city landscapes as core vibes, with binary colors and sounds, modern and graceful melodies. Their rock orientated works captures the urban taste that lies between abstracts and realities, harmonizing the fashion culture with their sound.
