THE JEZABELS release debut album Prisoner in Asia with Promotional Tour

Untitled Records are delighted to announce the upcoming Asian album release of hotly tipped Australian favorites, The Jezabels. The band’s debut full-length album, Prisoner, will be available in markets across South East Asia in June, coinciding with a four-date promotional tour of the region.

From humble beginnings in a Sydney University band competition to winners of the prestigious Australian Music Prize, singer Hayley Mary, keys player Heather Shannon, guitarist Sam Lockwood and drummer Nik Kaloper have fashioned a musical cocktail of power and elegance that has resonated with fans across continents. Their polarities of grandiose theatrics and gothic intensity melding into a trademark sound that is moody, mysterious and epic, whilst buzzing with the group’s ever-present knack for an irresistible pop hook.

Already Gold certified and #1 on the iTunes chart in Australia, Prisoner is a panoramic study of tension and emancipation, from the echoing stone cathedral of the title track to the sun-blasted morning of the first single, Endless Summer; from the cloistered atmospherics of the instrumental interlude, Austerlitz, to the chiming and climbing pop of Deep Wide Ocean and the quiet reflecting pool of Peace of Mind.

“The lyrics are set out as a letter to a prisoner,” singer Hayley says. “I’m interested in the idea of your personal role in your own oppression. To a certain extent the album explores the idea of looking at yourself as a prisoner and asking about the reasons for that. Are they external or are they internal?”

The first international act signed to Untitled Entertainment’s new record label division – Untitled Records, The Jezabels were ideal partners from the start. “The label is there to work hand in hand with our live business, and only with artists that understand the value and importance of touring,” says Untitled Entertainment’s Business Director Dash Nagata. “The Jezabels are a band we truly believe in. One we can grow alongside, who share our vision of wanting to develop Asia as a region for fresh and exciting music.”

A tireless work ethic remains central to The Jezabels. Their commitment to Asia has already seen them take part in the The People’s Party cross-regional series (along with Bombay Bicycle Club, Metronomy and The Naked & Famous) in January. Now they’re back for their first set of headlining club dates as part of a promotional album tour that will encompass Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Support on the evening comes from HK’s very own Sun Eskimos who will be playing an acoustic set to warm up the crowd ;)

BAND DESCRIPTION
﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣﹣

Forget the G ( Macau )

Radiohead, Nick Cave & the bad seeds, The Cure

Post Grunge?

Forget the G’s music has been described as Alternative Rock meshed with Post Grunge, while sonically full of outrageous elements from the Experimental world.

“The way we try to deliver our music, is to have our listeners being with us in the Subtle, Dynamical and Contradictive dimension that we comfortably found ourselves in.”

Forget the G’s debut EP is available in stores in Macau & Hong Kong. Digital downloads available on IndieVox, iTunes and Amazon Mp3.

The Yours

Formed in the summer of 2005, The Yours quickly captured the attention of HK audiences with their energetic live performances that blend squalling white noise with good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll sensibilities. Having re-emerged as a four-piece line up, they are currently preparing new songs for their debut album in a late night dive in Kwai Chung; aided only by the sickly rays of fluorescent light and a steady supply of budget-priced cigarettes.

Modern Children

2012年1月14日樂隊於蒲吧舉行其名為「Come Come Come Sun Live 2012」之音樂會,並於同日發布樂隊首張同名實體大碟《Modern Children》CD。

Modern Children are Kenneth, Winnie, Chih, Jimmy, Tony, Lung Wei.

“Colourful” is the word to describe Modern Children. They play in different music styles and always go on two extremes: indie pop and post rock. Their songs were filled with all kinds of sounds by using wide range of instruments, from guitars and bass to rainbow bells and erhu. Their positive music and passionate live performance have been bringing them to different stages in various countries, including Macau Flash 2008, NOTCH 2009 at GuangZhou, Baybeats 2010 at Singapore, Art Setouchi 2010 at Japan, Clockenflap 2010 and Fever Music Fest 2011 at ShangHai. In 2008, they had their first solo concert at Kubrick, HK. In late 2011, Modern Children used an unusual way to release their album – iPhone/ Android App. It was probably the very first free App Album in the world, which contains 10 songs for free download. The band held their concert named “Come Come Com Sun Live 2012” at Hang Out on 14th January 2012. Physical copies of their debut album CD “Modern Children” were launched in the same date.

No One Remains Virgin + Error:Wrong

由 Bowie Mok(主音),J Mak(低音結他)與 Mono
Koo(軟件)於O九年組成。

HK Extreme-Pop Band NORV was formed by Bowie Mok (Vocal), J Mak (Bass)
& Mono Koo (Software) in 2009. Once we found the local pop scene we
hate is just a huge noise mess but nothing about music, we found the
urgency to form a band by making local cheesy pop sounds.

Puzzle Experiment

Puzzle Experiment (P.E.)

Puzzle Experiment ( P.E.) is formed by Yeung, Chung, the guitarists, Kuen, the bassist and Pie, the drummer. The vocal of the band was suspended in midair. Til January of 2011, we met Manson and he became the vocal of the band.

On 2/4, Puzzle Experiment made their debut at Sai Wan Ho The Hangout.

In January of 2012, Ma Chin Hei, the bassist, joined and worked at Puzzle Experiment.

Lenny

Meeting by chance, five energetic and slightly hyperactive musicians formed Lenny in the winter of 2010. Spicing up their post-punk band materials with vivacity, the band gigs about town with their rocking and house-stomping performance that continually amuses and amazes, and rest assured, off the wall!

‘Stunning debut album’ The Independent

“Summer Camp”, which samples Kelly LeBrock in John Hughes’s Weird Science, while the euphoric “1988″ is Toni Basil by way of indie-pop. But Welcome to Condale doesn’t fetishise the past, its love-gone-wrong lyrics and snatches of chillwave lending Summer Camp a sound that is theirs alone. Guardian ****4 stars

. ‘Nobody Knows You’ combines trip-hop and soul to create a dancefloor Portishead……. Not just a summation of 21st-century alt.pop, but a compass pointing the way to its future adventures. NME 8/10

‘with songs like “Young” and “Ghost Train” this London duo prove that they live up to their hype, and it’s a good thing they came out of hiding. ‘ Nylon

In 2009 Summer Camp put out their first song on a fake myspace, claiming to be seven Swedish people who met at Summer Camp when they were 14. They had no idea of the blogosphere frenzy that would follow and within hours, blog after bigger blog with such gaints Gorrila vs Bear posting it as the latest hipster track.

However when Elizabeth was asked to write about cool new band Summer Camp for NME radar it seemed the game was up. Their first London gig sold out and they became darlings of the internet, with huge media attention from Nylon, NME, BBC, The Guardian, The Independent, Vogue all jumping on the Summer Camp bandwagon.

Everyone loves a boy girl duo and Summer Camp’s heady mix of synth pop, John Hughes fims, long hot summers, teenages crushes and school proms has proved to be as intoxicating as a first kiss after two cans of cider.

So get your fix early and come along for some May frolicking with Summer Camp, Songs for Children DJ set and Mike Mystery visuals!

See ya there!

After more than a decade of releasing critically acclaimed albums, and having spent four years hiding out in Oregon undergoing intense aesthetic transformation, pacificUV has returned home to Athens, Georgia with two new albums and a renewed sense of purpose. Since returning to the south, co-founder, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and photographer Clay Jordan has teamed up with music producer/recording engineer and performer Suny Lyons (Electrophoria, Hope For Agoldensummer, Lovers, Tin Cup Prophette, Popheart Productions), adding a dash of infectious pop into the delicious dreamscapes pacificUV is most known for.

Memories

Clay Jordan and Howard Hudson formed pacificUV in the late 1990s in Athens, Georgia. One of them wanted the band to sound like a psychedelic Jesus and Mary Chain tripping on Nyquil, while the other wanted to play one chord for 45 minutes to determine its color. Somehow, what emerged from these disparate goals was their self-titled debut album that Rolling Stone called a “masterpiece”. The perfect mixture of noise and melody, the first L.P. was a sprawling ambient landscape that revealed a myriad of influences, from shoegaze to 60’s rock, to slow core to post-rock.

Skip ahead a few years – and a change of location to Portland, Oregon – Longplay 2 is released, again to ardent critical praise. The sound of the debut record has been refined, with a more assured command of dynamics and tighter songwriting, but still sounding like it was beamed in from a distant planet.

The Now

Which leads us up to the present, and the releases of their newest record: Weekends. Recorded over the course of two years in Portland, Oregon and Athens, Georgia, Weekends details the disintegration of a relationship and represents a departure from the sprawling, dense soundscapes of the past, to include a new found pop sensibility that references the electronic musings of bands such as Kraftwerk and Magnetic Fields, while still maintaining the ambient leanings and ethereal textures that have become pacificUV’s trademark.

Tahiti 80 have proven themselves true originals who have touched our souls with carefully crafted delights for over fifteen years. Comparable to Blur’s transition from Leisure to Modern Life Is Rubbish or perhaps clutching towards Bowie’s chameleon-like early day personas, the entitlement of the word “rebirth” stands evident. Tahiti 80 initially formed by multi instrumentalists: Xavier Boyer, Médéric Gontier, Sylvain Marchand & Pedro Resende, is now a six-piece unit. The band has always been and will continue as a “musical” band giving the fans the best of their industry.

他們媲美歌壇變色龍 David Bowie,和搖滾樂隊Blur由《Leisure》到《Modern Life is Rubbish》的轉變,可謂風格百變。

(Australian indie pop)

After travelling around the world we’re back home in Sydney having released our second album ‘Across the ocean grey’. Penned on buses, trains and during airport sleepovers around the world. Recorded by us in our little London flat and in spare spaces about the town. Mixed and mastered in Glasgow at Ca Va Sound by the lovely Brian McNeill.

Songs from the album were inspired by a great adventure. We have been exploring, hunting, gathering, listening and remembering. We climbed to the top of a mountain, we took a forty-hour bus ride, we saw a spider bigger than our hands, we walked through a scared valley, we were sick, we saw dead bodies and dead dogs, we visited a city of god, we drank Havana Club in Havana, we danced with locals, we wore their clothes, we went to great heights, were dizzy, we swept through the dessert, we saw flamingos, we rode a train with gypsies, we played in the snow… and fell in and out of love.

Snapline have become, almost overnight it seems, perhaps Beijing’s fastest rising band. The band consists of Li Qing on guitar and keyboards and Li Weisi on bass, who met while at students the Beijing Institute of Technology. Their music was dedicated to working out in a contemporary Beijing context the sounds and ideas produced by the noise and minimalist musicians of the 1970s and 1980s, especially focusing on the New York scene of that period. Wanting also explore the dark, industrial music coming out of England during that period, especially from bands like Joy Division and the Cure, the two created a side project, which performed strange, drum-machine-driven music over dark, minor chords. Chen Xi, on vocals and drum machine, bought a softer, more fluid sound to the band with his delicate and slightly otherworldly singing.

When producer and ex-PIL drummer Martin Atkins came to Beijing in late 2006 to check on the local scene, he was delighted with dozens of bands, but wholly awestruck by Snapline’s uniquely weird melodies, and immediately insisted on producing their first CD. Within weeks they had laid down the tracks in Beijing and over the next few months began the mixing process in Chicago, at one point flying Chen Xi to Chicago to add additional tracks.

As snippets of the recording filtered through the scene in China, the band’s shows started drawing larger crowds, and they soon began to develop a very strong following. A series of concerts at D-22 established them as one of the central bands in the scene, much loved by critics and musicians, although difficult at times for audiences to follow. They are not the easiest band to love, but their followers are passionately loyal and their music keeps growing in strange unexpected ways. In October, 2007, the performed a stunning set at the Modern Sky festival, driving away half the audience in bewilderment and keeping the other half rooted to the grounds, mouths open, as Chen Xi danced and stumbled frenetically onstage while Li Qing’s strange and ugly noises dueled with Li Weisi’s relentless bass lines. After that show it was clear to many that Snapline was one of the key bands in the musical explosion emanating from Beijing.

The subject of many articles in the Chinese press, the band was listed in the September 2007 edition of That’sBeijing as one of the ten best bands in China and in an article in Rolling Stone that same year Li Qing was listed as one of China’s four major guitar innovators.

About the Band :

「在沈重與漂亮之間,在密集與空間之間-Bitch Magnet創造了這美妙的平衡,這些都被林林總總的樂隊探索試驗過,但只有Bitch Magnet能寫真正的歌」-Mac McCaughan(Superchunk, Merge Records共同創辦人)

Bitch Magnet was formed in the fall of 1986 by Jon Fine (guitar) and Sooyoung Park (bass and vocals), when the two were sophomores at Oberlin College. In 1987, they convinced drummer Orestes Morfín — then known as Orestes Delatorre — to sign on.

In January 1988, they recorded their debut mini-LP Star Booty in three days. The band self-released it in the fall of 1988 on their Roman Candle label, and the band began performing and building a following in key US cities. The pressing of 1,000 copies sold out quickly and the band was signed to The Communion Label in the US and Shigaku/What Goes On in the UK. Both labels reissued Star Booty and released the widely-acclaimed Umber, for which the band added Dave Galt on guitar.

Amid a wave of extraordinarily positive notices in the British and European press, the band toured Europe, with Galt and Bastro/Squirrel Bait founder David Grubbs on guitar, in fall of 1989. Following the tour, with Grubbs on guitar, the band recorded the single “Valmead.”

The trio lineup of Fine, Morfín, and Park reconvened in the early spring of 1990 to record what would be their final album, the hugely influential Ben Hur. The album is now often cited as a key inspiration for the kind of instrumentally-focused music that would become known as “post-rock,” a term which baffled the band then and continues to now. The “Valmead” single cracked the Top 20 on the British independent charts, and the band toured the US and Europe that year.

After the band quietly split up, its video for Ben Hur’s “Mesentery” garnered MTV airplay in the US and Europe. In 2004, Mojo magazine named Umber one of its “Lost Albums You Must Own.”
The entire remastered Bitch Magnet catalog, plus six previously unreleased tracks, was released as a triple-CD and a limited edition triple-LP in late 2011 by Temporary Residence Limited. It was greeted by rapturous critical responses from outlets ranging from the New York Times to Total Guitar, including four-star reviews in Rolling Stone and Mojo and a five-star review in Uncut.
Bitch Magnet accepted an offer from Battles to reunite at All Tomorrow’s Parties “Nightmare Before Christmas” festival in December 2011, and the band also performed a handful of dates in the UK, Europe and Asia in late 2011. Those performances marked the first onstage appearance of the band’s original recorded lineup – Morfin, Park and Fine – since 1989.
After Bitch Magnet’s dissolution, Park went on to form Seam. Morfín drummed in Walt Mink and Godrifle. Fine formed Vineland and Coptic Light, and briefly played in Don Caballero.
Much like their contemporaries in Slint, in the years following their breakup, Bitch Magnet have been recognized as a significant influence on generations of aggressive and musically complex bands, including Don Caballero, Rodan, June of 44 and Battles.
“Probably more than any other band, Bitch Magnet sent me in the direction I took with the music I have tried to make.” -Ian Williams (Battles, Don Caballero)

“Bitch Magnet created this amazing equilibrium between heaviness/prettiness and density/space. These juxtapositions were explored by a ton of bands at the time, but Bitch Magnet wrote songs.” –Mac McCaughan (Superchunk, Merge Records co-founder)
