About Urthona:
URTHONA was arisen from the interests of Motoshi Kubota and Charley Schoolmaster in the Autumn of 2001. Played as a duo at such venues as Mina Kitamura’s Eight space in Sakura apartments; Club Daughter; CanolFan; and Inuyama Matsuri. Then, joined by drummer Mr. Kuwayama(fabulous drummer from Six Eyes), and also melodic bassist Kenichi Matsumoto. Became a quartet of various styles! Played a few shows at Club BL, Club Daughter, and Huck Finn, but Mr. Kuwayama was fairly busy playing drums for a few other bands, which didn’t permit enough practice time together to fulfill Urthona’s complex endeavors. So, enter Makoto Sakaguchi, who has been at the skins since Mr. Kuwayama’s sorrowful departure. Interestingly enough Sakaguchi and Matsumoto played together as a rhythm unit for a band in the past, so they were familiar with one another’s energy, just as Kubota and Schoolmaster had become familiar with one another’s sound energy. So now, it became up to these two pairs, rhythm and melodic incandescence, to familiarize themselves into a unified unit! And we are still in the process of feeling each other out towards a certain oneness, which, at the same time, leaves our individual consciousness’ somewhat intact. Having just finished recording songs for our second release, to be fortunately released on Nagoya’s StiffSlack, we, as a unit, concluded it best to cut Motoshi Kubota loose and proceed as a trio. We’ll see…..And so here we reside, cyberspatially, as a cyber-sonic trio, both here and there….
