Reggae fans will no doubt remember only last year when Good Vibes Sound System brought the man whose studio recorded Bob Marley’s first album to Hong Kong. As a direct result of his 2009 Back to China tour, where legendary Chinese Jamaican reggae producer and dub pioneer Clive Chin was so impressed by the outstanding talent of China’s rising vocal star ChaCha that he decided to commit her to vinyl for this 1st ever groundbreaking Chinese/western vinyl release. Yet the pedigree of this unique release does not finish there: Clive Chin has also brought on board one of Jamaica’s foremost pioneering toasters Ranking Joe who responds to ChaCha’s Chinese lyrics in English in vintage fast chat style; furthermore the instrumental was laid down by ska maestro Rico Rodriguez on trombone as well as original members of the seminal Skatalites (Alpha Boys Band), including Johnny “Dizzy” Moore on trumpet, Tommy McCook on tenor sax and Headley “Deadly” Bennet on Alto Sax; and on the mixing board beside Clive Chin there is King Tubby’s protege dub genius Prince Phillip Smart – altogether resulting in one of the most exciting and original reggae releases in decades.
