Nujabes’ music is a gift for your soul. Listening to Nujabes’ compositions is like getting a swift feeling of happiness from being alive and living in the present moment. You could play these instrumentals in the saddest setting and somehow the beauty in the music would make you see the whole situation in a positive light. This right here is why we love music. Tragically last year we lost Nujabes in a car accident but in 2011 his music lives on with his final album that was released on Dec 3rd in Japan. Spirtual State also features vocal contributions from Substantial, Cise Starr of CYNE & Pase Rock.

Biography (English):
Jun Seba (瀬葉淳) (February 7, 1974-February 26, 2010) was a Japanese hip-hop music producer who recorded under the name Nujabes (new-jah-behz; which is simply his real name spelled backwards). His music is known for a strong cool jazz influence, frequently using samples from artists like Miles Davis and Yusef Lateef.
He was also an owner of “tribe”, a record store in Shibuya, Tokyo, and led indie record label Hyde-Out Productions. He released two albums in Japan, Metaphorical Music in 2003 and Modal Soul in 2005. He was also a member of the production duo Urbanforest, an experimental collaboration with Nao Tokui (appearing on the Lady Brown 12”).
In addition to Japanese artists like Shing02 and MINMI, he has collaborated with underground American hip-hop acts CYNE, Apani B-Fly, Five Deez, Substantial, Fat Jon and British rapper Funky DL.
He has also contributed music to the soundtrack of Samurai Champloo, an anime which blends a setting in feudal Japan with modern anachronisms, especially hip-hop music.
On March 17, 2010, it was announced on the Hyde-Out Productions website that Jun passed away on February 26, 2010 at the age of 36 after being involved in a serious car accident on the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway. He was promptly transported to the hospital, where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. 2010年2月26日に交通事故に遭い36歳の若さでこの世を去ったDJ／トラックメイカー、Nujabes。彼のラスト・アルバム『spiritual state』が、12月3日にリリースされることが決定した。
『metaphorical music』『modal soul』に続く自身3枚目のオリジナル・アルバムとして制作が進められていたものの、本人の急逝により未完となってしまったこの作品。タイトル・トラックの“spiritual state”は生前の彼が早い段階からアルバムの最重要曲として位置づけていたもので、いままでのビート・オリエンテッドな作風から一変し、手拍子やピアノ、サックスのシンプルな響きを重ねて作られた、これまで以上に深い音楽表現を試みた慈愛に溢れるナンバーに仕上がっている。
そのほかにも、サイズ・スターを迎えたエモーショナルなピアノのリフレインが印象的な“Sky is Tumbling”、盟友のペイス・ロックとサブスタンシャルが息の合った掛け合いを聴かせる“City Light”、Nujabesの作品ではお馴染みのUyama Hirotoによるサックスと、トリビュート盤『modal soul classics II -dedicated to…Nujabes-』にも参加していたharuka nakamuraの爪弾くギターが美しく寄り添う“Island”など、全14曲を収録。Nujabesという音楽家の魂の分身とも言うべき作品の数々が繋ぎ合わされた、最後のアルバムとなっている。トラックリストは以下の通り。
